Following the Supreme Court's Monday ruling to prevent the implementation of a new state law that targeted suspected illegal immigration, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has promised to leave the contentious buoys in the Rio Grande.

Abbott said in a post on X, the old Twitter, that the Texas National Guard will deploy razor wire barriers along the Texas-Mexico border, the buoys would remain in the river, and wall construction would proceed.

Concerning how to handle an increase in unauthorized migration over the southern border in recent months, tensions between Texan and federal officials have risen.

The Supreme Court decided on January 22 that federal authorities may take down the razor wire that Abbott had ordered to be installed along the border. After learning of this, Abbott became enraged and said that his state was the target of a "invasion," citing "Texas's constitutional authority to defend and protect itself."

Donald Trump has turned illegal immigration into a contentious political issue, with the likely Republican contender for president in 2024 citing a crackdown as a major selling point for his campaign for a second term in office.

Abbott made reference to Senate Bill 4 (SB 4), the Texas law that the Supreme Court had stopped from becoming law, in a post on X, the old Twitter.
